Dirty as a Dustbin – Shame on you, Copenhagen!

Copenhagen, Denmark – 26 May 2013

Some years back I used to live in Copenhagen. Beautiful city – fabulous architecture set in clean streets full of people happily riding their bikes. Returning for a visit I was utterly dumbstruck and disheartened. Simple as.

Tivoli awakens for the new season

Copenhagen, Denmark – 4 April 2013

It’s early April and in Copenhagen spring is creeping in – though it’s still a bit too cold for my liking. We got under the skin of the 170-year-old traditional – and tradition rich – amusement park a mere week before the new season kicks off.

Taking a stroll through Tivoli before it opens to the public is an interesting eye opener. For some reason one expects a place like this to always look the same, but the barred gates, myriad of workmen and their machines, and rolls of grass waiting to be laid down like a carpet in your living room quickly put things into perspective. Wow… It actually did happen. This past month-and-a-bit has seen quite a few changes:

  • Get rid of stuff – check
  • Get rid of more stuff – check
  • Give notice – yup, done
  • Pack up remaining stuff – also done
  • Move out, stuff to storage – been there, done that
  • Move to hotel and ponder next move – yessir!
  • Fly off to Algarve on a whim and see what happens – also sorted
  • Fly back to the UK after a week as planned – erhm, nope. Never quite did that… Is that going to be a problem??
